How Avendo routes each transaction in real time

Avendo routes each card transaction to the connected processor offering the best available rate at that moment, automatically and in real time.

Most online stores send every sale to one processor at one price list. Avendo connects your checkout to multiple PCI DSS-compliant processors instead, so each transaction can go wherever the rate is best right then. You keep one checkout, and Avendo reports show what you paid.

How does Avendo transaction routing work?

When a customer pays, Avendo evaluates the processors connected to your account and sends that transaction to the one offering the best available rate. The decision is made per transaction, so two sales a minute apart can go to different processors. Nothing changes for the customer at checkout.

  1. A customer pays at your checkout

The payment starts on the checkout page you already use.
  2. Avendo checks connected processors

Your checkout is connected to multiple PCI DSS-compliant processors and gateways.
  3. The best available rate is selected

Avendo picks the processor offering the best available rate for that specific transaction.
  4. The transaction is processed

The chosen processor handles the payment.
  5. Results appear in your reports

Avendo pricing and processing reports show how transactions were processed and what they cost.

Definition

What “best available rate” means at Avendo

The best available rate is the lowest-cost option Avendo can find among the processors connected to your checkout, for that transaction, at that moment. It is not a claim about every processor on the market, and it can differ from one sale to the next because processor pricing varies by transaction.

Why it matters

Why processor choice per sale makes sense

Processors differ on price and outcomes. Revolution Payments notes that Mastercard charges higher assessments on transactions over $1,000, so transaction size changes the math. Beast Insights cites Spreedly 2023 data showing decline rates from 2.8% to 98% across 106 US-dollar gateways. One fixed processor cannot be the best choice for every transaction.

Common questions

All questions in the FAQ
How does Avendo transaction routing work?
When a customer pays at your checkout, Avendo evaluates the payment processors connected to your account and sends the transaction to the one offering the best available rate at that moment. This happens automatically and in real time for each transaction. You keep one checkout while gaining access to several processors behind it.
What does “best available rate” mean?
It means the lowest-cost option Avendo can find among the processors connected to your checkout for that specific transaction, at the moment it happens. Rates vary by processor and transaction, so the best choice can differ from one sale to the next. It does not mean the lowest rate on the entire market.
Why connect a checkout to more than one processor?
Because processors differ on price and on outcomes. Beast Insights cites Spreedly 2023 data showing decline rates from 2.8% to 98% across 106 US-dollar gateways, and Primer figures showing an instant retry on a different processor recovers about 20% of declines versus 2% on the same account. Avendo uses multiple processors to route each sale by best available rate.
Will Avendo lower my credit card processing fees?
Avendo is designed to route each transaction to the connected processor with the best available rate, so you are not tied to one processor’s pricing. Actual results depend on your sales mix and the processors connected, so this hub makes no savings promise. Ask Avendo to review your current statements and explain what routing could change.
Do large transactions cost more to process?
They can. Revolution Payments notes that Mastercard charges higher assessments on transactions over $1,000. If your store sells high-ticket items, this is worth reviewing on your statements. Avendo’s processing reports are meant to make this kind of detail easier to see, and routing evaluates the available rate for each transaction individually.
Why do card transactions get declined?
Declines can come from the card issuer, the processor, or details entered at checkout, and processors differ widely. Beast Insights cites Spreedly 2023 data showing decline rates from 2.8% to 98% across 106 US-dollar gateways. If declines are a concern for your store, raise them with Avendo when discussing which processors connect to your checkout.
